Junior Academy

Fund raising efforts for our Junior Academy have reached an amazing £380 these monies being raised from the sale of used sets of bowls, sale of plants and marmalade at our open days and fayre’s and £145 donated by Waitrose who included our club in a token drop as part of their community matters scheme during October 2019.

This has enabled our Junior Coach, Dave Buttle, to purchase two new much needed sets of junior coaching bowls.

Congratulations to Dave and our junior players in their success this season in the Sussex County matches.

Memory Lane Eastbourne
Social Activities for People with Dementia & their Carers

We recently welcomed Members and their Carers from ‘Memory Lane’ to have their first try at bowls. We started the session by having a go at delivering the bowls, followed by scoring points using the floor target and ‘goal’. A cuppa and cake finished off a fun afternoon and we look forward to their next visit. Visits are planned for the 4th Friday in the month.

DO YOU SHOP IN WAITROSE?

The Waitrose Community Matters in-store scheme offers a share of £1000 between three local organisations. The proportion of that share is decided by store customers placing a token in a voting box after their shop.

EDIBC have been chosen by Waitrose in Old Town Eastbourne as one of the three local organisations for the month of OCTOBER so any tokens placed in our box will help us purchase smaller (junior) size bowls for our junior section.

Our club is actively trying to encourage younger players to become involved in bowls and have recently welcomed a few local scout and cub groups to have a go, bowls is a great way to stay fit, make new friends and can be played by all ages

Captains Charity Raises £3,000

Members, friends and guests of Eastbourne & District Indoor Bowls Club based within Hampden Park have raised over £3,000 for this seasons Captains Charity, The Children With Cancer Fund, Polegate.

On 26th January, 72 Club bowlers of all levels of ability played in a very enjoyable Captains Charity Bowls Tournament. All Match fees, proceeds from bar and restaurant sales, raffle, tombola and auctions were donated with Barclays Bank generously matching the amount raised by raffle ticket sales.

In March the local Beatles tribute band “Nothing Is Real” played for free to a sold out concert in the Club. 120 members and guests enjoyed an excellent evening of nostalgia with all entrance money being donated, as well as proceeds from the raffle, tombola and auctions.

E&DIBC Men’s Captain, Peter Ring said “I am extremely proud of the support and  generosity of our Members, guests, local businesses, and to the organisers, for the amount raised for this fantastic local Charity in our Clubs 40th Anniversary year”

Zoe, Fund Raiser at CWCF, said “A huge massive thank you to you all and the Eastbourne and District Indoor Bowls club for all your support and fundraising, you are all amazing”

Nothing is Real

NOTHING IS REAL entertained us at the club last night with an amazing evening of Beatles hits.

The generosity of our members and friends just astounds us with a total £1100 being raised for CHILDREN WITH CANCER FUND bringing our total for the year to just over £3000. Our thanks to David & Naomi for arranging the evening, Michelle for yet another fantastic buffet, to Chloe & Sue from CWCF who helped us sell raffle tickets, Billy & Peter behind the bar what a busy night they had and to all the other volunteers behind the scenes, without who these events would not happen.

Don’t forget our next event is our Spring Fayre & Open Morning Saturday 6th April 9.30 – 2pm

Old Town Scouts try bowling

LennyThis evening we entertained 45 youngsters from 1st Old Town Scouts who came along to the club to have a go at Indoor Bowls, after a 20 minute practice session learning how the bias makes the bowl curve as it travels down the rink they all had fun changing rinks aiming at different targets. Squash and biscuits went down well afterwards.

The children were joined by Lenny, mascot of Little Kickers UK (Eastbourne) and Little Rugby Eastbourne, he likes to have a go at different sports. As our club made no charge for this event the Scouts very kindly made a donation of approx £50 towards our Captains Charity of the year which is the local “Children With Cancer Fund” based in Polegate.

Thanks to all the club members who volunteered to help make the evening such a success.
